Dream State

Throughout many parts of my life, I have struggled with dissociation. In this piece I attempt to capture the feeling of not recognizing yourself after a long period of dissociation. The shadowy figure represents the inner mind, which watches over your life, pulling you down and leading you astray. I felt this pull especially after going through hard times with my family. As things were falling apart, I was more and more tempted to slip away into a dream state, and when I did, I couldn't recognize myself in the mirror.
